About Bachata

Bachata is a style of social dance from the Dominican Republic which is now danced all over the world. It is associated with bachata music. In the West, various dancers are known to copy moves and turn patterns from various couple dances, performing these combinations in the timing used in bachata dancing, thus creating a fusion dance.

Styles

There are 3 styles of Bachata all being giving at Salsa Connexion.
  • Dominican Bachata (we call them the fundaments & roots)
  • Bachata Moderna (mix of integrated moves and turn patterns)
  • Bachata Sensual (characterized by waves and body motion)

Bachata Levels

Bachata Absolute Beginner – Level 1
You will learn the fundamental techniques & theory of this Latin dance. After this course you will be able to dance short combinations and basic turns, which you can literally use all over the world!

Bachata Absolute Beginner – Level 1: is a course with a progressive program and learning curve.

Bachata Beginner - Level 2
Continue your steps! You will continue conditioning your muscle memory. Your feel for timing will improve and you will start having more control over your basics. No it is time to add more techniques, theory and variations. New moves to add to your arsenal!

Bachata Beginner – Level 2: is a course with a progressive program and learning curve. Repeating this course is totally fine when you feel you need more time to master the techniques. The stronger your techniques and control the easier you will progress in the next levels.

Bachata Beginner – Level 3
Let’s keep going. You are on the right path! New techniques & theory, but also you start recognizing the techniques and turn patterns you learned in Bachata 1 and/or Bachata 2, but in new variations or multitasking adding styling and body movement. You will also experience the playfulness of dancing shines during your partner work. Keep developing your skills which will lead to more control and more freedom, fun and pleasure on the dancefloor. Last but not least, we will start teaching you elements of “Bachata Sensual”.
Bachata Beginner – Level 3: are classes on a ongoing basis, meaning there is no start and end date like we have in the beginner courses. In the ongoing classes we speak of level of control in technique and theory.
Recommended to take this level a minimum of 4-6 months before moving to Bachata level 4.
Bachata Improver – Level 4
You’ve done the groundwork, now step it up a notch! This level is for dancers looking to either attain or refine their technical abilities. Focus is on partnering skills, turn & rotation techniques, Sensual techniques, balance and connection to help you be a great partner on the dance floor. You will also start to become a more complete dancer by taking breaks and interpretation musicality, which will improve your connection to the music and will test & develop your dance and expression.
Salsa improver – Level 4: are classes on a ongoing basis, meaning there is no start and end date like we have in the beginner courses. In the ongoing classes we speak of level of control in technique and theory.
Recommended to take this level a minimum of 6 months, due to lot of new techniques & theory, before moving to Bachata level 5/6.
Bachata Intermediate – Level 5/6
Maximize your time & learning! Besides Partner work, New turn patterns, techniques & Theory, in the Intermediate Level 5/6 Bachata Track there will be more attention for Footwork & Body Movement to work towards becoming a more complete dancers (“in dance we use all of our body”) The pairing and development of both skills will allow you to dance organically, with ease and you will become more capable of communicating, connecting and expressing yourself through dance.
Bachata Intermediate – Level 5/6: are classes on a ongoing basis, meaning there is no start and end date like we have in the beginner courses. In the ongoing classes we speak of level of control in technique and theory.
Recommended to take this level a minimum of 6 months to immerge the techniques & theory we offer at this level.
Body Movement Basics
Add flavour and style to your dancing while getting a great workout! Being able to move to the rhythm is the true essence of dancing Bachata and besides it will take your solo and partnering abilities to a whole other level.
Recommended for All Levels of dancers on an ongoing basis
