About Salsa

Salsa is a Latin dance associated with the music genre of the same name which originated in the 1960s in New York City. Salsa is an amalgamation of Cuban dances that were popular in the ballrooms and nightclubs of Havana by the end of the 1950s (e.g. “casino”, mambo and pachanga), as well as American jazz dances.

Latin American styles originate from Puerto Rico, Cuba and surrounding Caribbean islands including the Dominican Republic, and then expanding to Venezuela, Colombia, and the rest of Latin America.

Salsa Levels

Salsa Absolute Beginner – Level 1
You will learn the fundamental techniques & theory of this Latin dance. You will also learn the dance Merengue which we use in our methodology to teach how to transfer your weight and develop the first coordinated steps. After this course you will be able to dance short combinations and basic turns, which you can literally use all over the world!

Salsa Absolute Beginner – Level 1: is a course with a progressive program and learning curve.

Salsa Beginner - Level 2/3
Continue your steps! You will continue conditioning your muscle memory. Your feel for timing will improve and you will start having more control over your basics. No it is time to add more techniques, theory and variations. New moves to add to your arsenal!

Salsa Beginner – Level 2: is a course with a progressive program and learning curve. Recommended to take this course again when you need the practice to master the techniques.

Salsa Beginner – Level 3/4
Let’s keep going. You are on the right path! New techniques & theory, but also you start recognizing the techniques and turn patterns you learned in Salsa 1 and/or Salsa 2, but in new variations or multitasking adding styling and body movement. You will also experience the playfulness of dancing shines during your partner work. Keep developing your skills which will lead to more control and more freedom, fun and pleasure on the dancefloor.

Salsa Beginner – Level 3: is a course with a continious program. Repeating this course is 2 or 3 times is recommended when you feel you need more time to master the techniques. The stronger your techniques and control the easier you will progress in the next levels.

All the techniques that belong on this dance level are offered over a periode of 2-3 courses (of 8 weeks)

Salsa Improver – Level 4
You’ve done the groundwork, now step it up a notch!
This level is for beginner to intermediate dancers looking to either attain or refine their technical abilities. Focus is on partnering skills, turn & rotation techniques, travelling turns, balance and connection to help you be a great partner on the dance floor. You will also start to become a more complete dancer by mixing up Partnering and Shines (dancing solo), which will improve your connection to the music and will test & develop your solo dance and expression.

Salsa improver – Level 4: are classes on a ongoing basis, meaning there is no start and end date like we have in the beginner courses. In the ongoing classes we speak of level of control in technique and theory.

Recommended to follow all modules offered at this level (3-4 courses of 8 weeks) before moving to the next level.

Salsa Improver – Level 4/5
Maximize your time & learning! Besides Partner work, New turn patterns, techniques & Theory, in the Improver Level 4/5 Salsa Track there will be more attention for Footwork & Body Movement to work towards becoming a more complete dancers (“in dance we use all of our body”) The pairing and development of both skills will allow you to dance organically, with ease and you will become more capable of communicating, connecting and expressing yourself threw dance.
Salsa improver – Level 4/5: are classes on a ongoing basis, meaning there is no start and end date like we have in the beginner courses. In the ongoing classes we speak of level of control in technique and theory.

Recommended to follow all modules offered at this level (3-4 courses of 8 weeks) before moving to the next level.

Salsa Intermediate – Level 6/7
You want more?! That is awesome! Understanding and mastering the techniques & theory from the previous levels and! Your technique individual skills will become more important in your partner work. We will work and test your balance, soft lead-follow skils, your speed, multi-tasking capabilities. You will have fun while being challenged. To keep building & growing as a dancer it requires commitment and dedication. With that, you can accomplish a lot!
Salsa Intermediate – Level 6/7: are classes on a ongoing basis, meaning there is no start and end date like we have in the beginner courses. In the ongoing classes we speak of level of control in technique and theory.

Recommended to follow all modules offered at this level (3-4 courses of 8 weeks) before moving to the next level.

Salsa Advanced – Level 8/9/10
Besides having a good time and fun together, this class also has the mentality of “bring it one”. You should be able to process the class material and you strive to mastering it. Our goal is to help you grow even more, to test your skills. You now understand lots of techniques and theory. Now also focus on what needs to be improved, the nuances, your lead & follow, your musicality and ability to express yourself in shines in different ways on different types of music.
Salsa Advanced – Level 8/9/10: are classes on a ongoing basis, meaning there is no start and end date like we have in the beginner courses. In the ongoing classes we speak of level of control in technique and theory.

Recommended to take this level a minimum of 6 months to immerge the techniques & theory we offer at this level.
Permission required to participate in this level!

Salsa Body Movement Basics
Add flavour and style to your dancing while getting a great workout! Being able to move to the rhythm is the true essence of dancing Salsa and besides it will take your solo and partnering abilities to a whole other level.
Recommended for All Levels of On1 dancers on an ongoing basis
